This course will analyse how health and disease problems are constructed and tackled under different socio-cultural, political and historical contexts. It will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to discuss the changing conceptions of health and disease, the role of health and disease in the making of modern states, the role of power in the "medicalisation" of social problems and the political economy of public health institutions.
